Well i’m excited to say that the replacement levy election is coming up this Tuesday, February 9th. Every group (Kiwanis, Lions, Chamber of Commerce) that I’ve talked with about they levy seems to be supportive. I’ll be glad whenwe can move on to the next exciting project!
I’ll be traveling to the Legislative Conference on Sunday to find out more about the state’s budget and the recent court ruling which indicated that Washington State is not fully funding education. This was big news this week, however i’ll be anxious to see where they think the funding for education will becoming from the state’s budget deficit.
Fantastic day again today! We are wrapping up our annual audit it sounds like this week! It also sounds like our levy literature that we’ll be sending out the first of January will be arriving this week from the printers. I like checking things off my list! I had a great meeting with Penny from the Quad City Herald this morning. She’s doing an article on recent news that our secondary school is being listed in U.S. News and World report as one of the top high schools in the state. This is fantastic news! We also were told that a local resident has written a very postive letter to the editor in response to our dress code changes and overall momentum of the district.
I also got a chance to speak at the 5th grade D.A.R.E. graduation which i love to do when i get the chance.
I met with Rebecca from Kozi Radio this morning and Cheryl from the Omak Chronicle and talked with them about the state’s budget and the district’s upcoming replacement levy. I informed them that we’re being told to expect a 5% cut in state funding now that the state’s budget deficit continues to grow…2+ billion last time i heard. Like last year it grew like the Jack’s bean stalk each month. {C: We’ll over come our challenges…we always do…got to get this levy passed first!

We had some very positive press today regarding our new graduation requirements in the Wentachee World newspaper! It’s exciting to read about our focus on improving academic programs. Our high school principal and staff have done a wonderful job making this a reality for our students.
I’ve been trying to get ready today between meetings for the WSSDA conference in Seattle. I’m really looking forward to hearing the speakers this year and taking the classes.
